Marilyn M. Alderman of Hockessin is one of the most active and respected pilots in Delaware. She has given generously of her creative, technical and managerial skills to the advancement of aviation in the First State.
She has served as chair of the Delaware Ninety-Nines, the international organization of licensed women pilots; governor of the Mid-Atlantic Section of the 99s; and a founding director of Delaware Aviation Support, Inc., formed in 1991 to promote a joint civilian/government approach to aviation
problems and opportunities.
Mrs. Alderman was a founding trustee and treasurer of the Delaware Aviation Hall of Fame. A trustee emerita, she is the first member of the board to be inducted into the ranks of DAHF honorees.
She flies a SOCATA TB-20 "Trinidad" and has accumulated 3,000 cockpit hours. Airline transport-rated, she is in her ninth year as a jet simulator co-pilot at FlightSafety International at New Castle County Airport.
The fast lane is hardly new to her: In the 1960s she joined husband George in sports car racing. Today she keeps the books for Alderman Automotive Machines in New Castle, where George and son Paul build high-performance race car engines, as well as perform machine work for conventional cars, trucks, motorcycles and boats.
George also helped jump-start the DAHF Though not a licensed pilot, he loves to fly, especially on junkets with Marilyn as members of the International Fellowship of Flying Rotarians.
Besides Paul, the Aldermans have a daughter, Laura, also of Wilmington.
