Jo’Andrew Cousins was an Air Force JROTC Cadet even before he graduated from Dover High School. He trained on the Piper PA-28 Cherokee and the Cessna 172 Skyhawk. He received his pilot’s license while studying in Delaware State University’s Airways Science Program.
He joined the Civil Air Patrol in 1990, the United States Coast Guard in 1995, and United Airlines in 2019. In the Coast Guard, he flew the HU-25 and C-130J supporting missions such as Hurricane Lenny Search and Rescue and Hurricane Katrina Rescue and Relief.
His Coast Guard Assignments include: Department Head for Aviation Flight Safety, Instructor Pilot, C-130J Aircraft, Project Office, Military, Aide to Commander U.S. Coast Guard, and Operations Division Chief, Aviation Logistics Center.
His awards from the United States Coast Guard include the Meritorious Service Medal, 2 Commendation Medals, and an Achievement Medal. He is also highly decorated by the Civil Air Patrol including the Crisis Service Award, Air Force Organizational Excellence Award, and the National Commanders Commendation Medal.
As a member of the Civil Air Patrol (CAP), Jo’Andrew strives to inspire the Next Generation. He gives speeches to encourage young people to learn about flying. He donates to the Dover Delaware Air Force Junior ROTC Program to pay for students to take their FAA Drone Operator certification tests and 4 students earned their Drone Certifications.
Jo’Andrew began his Commercial Aviation Career in 2019 by joining United Airlines. He holds ratings for L-65, DA20, and Boeing 737, 757, & 767 aircraft. He is a Certified Flight Instructor with Instruments (CFII) and a Multi-Engine Instructor (MEI).
