Lloyd Austin Lloyd received his first CAA private pilot certificate in a Taylorcraft BC-L2D while attending the Institute of Aviation, University of Illinois ROTC. He has flown thousands of hours and instructed hundreds of pilots over the past seven decades. He served in the United States Air Force for 20 years (1955-1975) as an Aircraft Commander & Instructor Pilot in the C-118,
C-135, C-141, & C-5A; including one tour in the Republic of Vietnam (1968-I969). For the past 43 years (1978-Present), he has instructed hundreds of pilots at Flight Safety in Wilmington, accumulating more than 25,000 hours of simulator instruction time.

He is the recipient of the Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal, Air Force Commendation Medal, Combat Readiness Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with 4 Bronze Service Stars, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, and the Air Force Outstanding Unit Award with Three Oak Leaf Clusters.

Lloyd's USAF Air Medal is for a onetime event entailing the successful landing of a C-5A military aircraft, fully loaded with cargo, plus 82 passengers, and without the benefit of a nose landing gear due to loss of the retraction linkage which had broken up and fallen into the Pacific Ocean shortly after takeoff.

He has been recognized by the Federal Aviation Administration Eastern Region with Instructor of the Year Award; Flight Safety with the "Best of the Best" Award, and the Wright Brothers Award.

Lloyd has over 25,000 hours of flight simulation instruction time and has had a long record of sending pilots to take examinations, and getting great results. As an FAA examiner, Lloyd also conducted hundreds of examinations for corporate jet pilots.
