Captain Scott D. Alwine, Scott was born in Wilmington and grew up in Newark. He graduated from Christiana High School in 1982 and Penn State University in 1987. He was commissioned through the Penn State University Naval ROTC program.
He earned his Naval Aviator Wings in May 1989 and was the first student pilot trained in the F-14B aircraft. He was an F-14 Tomcat Instructor Pilot and Airshow Demonstration Pilot. His graduate pilot training includes the prestigious Naval Fighter Weapons School (Top Gun). He served 14 years on active duty and 16 years in the Naval Reserve retiring at the rank of Captain.
Scott was fully combat qualified in both the F-14 (Tomcat) and F/A-18 (Hornet). He is a decorated combat veteran of the First Gulf War (Desert Storm). He accumulated over 3000 naval flight hours and over 700 arrested landings during four deployments aboard the USS SARATOGA 1990-1991, USS SARATOGA 1991-1992, USS GEORGE WASHINGTON 1997-1998, and USS JOHN F. KENNEDY 1999-2000.
His first reserve duty was as Administrative Officer of NR Law Enforcement Physical Security Unit (LEPSU) 1086 on board NAS Oceana, VA. After seven months in that billet, he was recalled to active duty to establish the first Antiterrorism/Force Protection (AT/FP) department for Commander, Second Fleet in Norfolk, VA.
Scotts personal awards include the Legion of Merit(2), Meritorious Service Medal(4), Air Medal with Combat V (2 Individual/ 3 Strike/Flight), Navy Commendation Medal (5/1 with Combat V) and the Navy Achievement Medal (3).
He currently flies the Boeing 787 DreamLiner for United Airlines, primarily on long-range-international flights. He resides in Virginia Beach with his wife Jackie. They raised two children, son Patrick and daughter Meredith.
