Franklin R. Wooten
Delaware Air National Guard Pilot, Over 10,000 Flight Hours, Built and flew his own aircraft,
Wright Brothers "Master Pilot Award".
Franklin R. Wooten was born in Upland Pennsylvania. He began working as a tool and die maker with the Piasecki Aircraft Company in Morton Pennsylvania.
Pursuing an interest in aviation Franklin joined the company’s flying club and obtained his flying license at 18 years of age.
Frank worked on the first army twin rotor Chinook helicopter. Following the Chinook’s success Boeing bought out the company and Frank stayed with Boeing for 43 years.
Frank joined the Delaware Air National Guard and for 32 years flew fighters and Transport Aircraft, amassing 10,000 hours.
Frank also built and flew his own private aircraft a high performance, R-V-8.
Frank was awarded many decorations and awards, both military and civilian. He retired from the military as a Lieutenant Colonel and now resides in Brookhaven Pennsylvania with his wife Catherine and son. They are celebrating their 60th Anniversary.
Frank belongs to many aviation organizations and in 2013 was awarded the coveted Wright Brothers “Master Pilot Award.”
