Herman Ray Richardson
Chinook Pilot, Vietnam Veteran, 10,000 accident free hours, Order of Saint Michael
Herman Richardson joined the United States Army in 1966. He served as a helicopter crewman on a UH-1 during his first tour in Vietnam. After completing the Warrant Officer Flight Program, he transitioned into the Chinook helicopter and completed his second tour of Vietnam, flying 375 combat hours.
During his military career, Herman held several titles including Line Pilot , Maintenance Test Pilot, Maintenance Platoon Leader, to Brigade Maintenance Officer.
Herman and his abilities were a valuable asset to several militaries around the world. He was sent on several TDY tours to many parts of the world including Honduras, Australia, and Egypt. He was heavily involved in the training the Egyptian forces and all aspects of maintenance. He was also responsible for the preparing, shipping, restoring, and delivering the 160 brigade aircraft for Desert Shield in 1990.
Herman also trained the Taiwan Air Force and the Singapore Air Force in the CH-47SD aircraft.
Herman also spent a significant number of years with Boeing. In 2005 Herman earned a Masters in Total Quality Management from the National Graduate School. Herman retired from Boeing in 2010 and is currently a Contractor Test Pilot for the U.S. Army.
Over his 47 year aviation career Herman has logged over 10,000 accident free hours.
His awards include the Order of Saint Michael, Legion of Merit, Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and Vietnam Service Medal
